Darlingtonia Californica

Darlingtonia californica, also called "cobra lily" is a carnivorous plant, the only member of the genus Darlingtonia from the Sarraceniaceae family, a native of northern California, British Columbia (Canada) and Oregon, which grows in bogs. It can grow at high altitudes, up to 2800m At lower heights, the plants grow on the shores fed by cold water from the melting snow of the mountains. Care: Place the plant in a shady place in summer; it is very sensitive to direct sunlight during the months of July-August. During winter, if it receives direct sun, the jars acquire a bluish-purple colour. The roots always have to be wet, so it is necessary to have a small plate or tray with a few centimeters of water permanently under the pot. It can also be watered from the top. Recommended Substrate: live sphagnum. If kept in the shade (except in winter), use a substrate based on 100% live sphagnum with constant watering. It is an easy species to grow. If peat moss is used instead of sphagnum, cultivation becomes more complicated and is not recommended.
