More info

These plants are indigenous to Eastern Texas, the area of the Great Lakes and southeastern Canada, with most growing in the southeastern United States (only S. purpurea is grown in regions with mild temperatures). Plant leaves form a tunnel to catch insects and produce enzymes to digest their prey. Insects are attracted to its nectar secretion as well as a combination of smells and colours.

Cultivation:

Light and temperature: The Sarracenia is a temperate climate species, so throughout the year it should be grown outside. The plant can be kept inside only if special lighting is used for the cultivation. During the winter (  and only if it is icy ), it is preferable to keep it inside, although it tolerates the outside conditions  fairly well. It needs direct sunlight in summer and winter to properly develop (at least 3-4 hours).

Irrigation: Place the pot over a bowl or saucer with a few inches of water to keep the substratum always damp, but not waterlogged. It can be given a water break one day a week or so.

Substrate: peat should be used WITHOUT COMPOST (It can be found in our shop). Do not use universal or compost peat moss, as it would die within months. It is recommended to mix the peat with perlite / vermiculite, or quartz sand to provide a less compact substrate, where the roots will develop much better, encouraging the growth of the plant. It is an ideal plant for beginners, as long as you follow our cultivation guide.
